JUNIOR APPRAISER

This position involves appraisal and consulting on real property, under the supervision of a senior professional appraiser. Property types include commercial, multifamily, industrial, institutional, and possibly special use properties.

 

The incumbent is required to progress towards designation with the Appraisal Institute of Canada as an AACI.

 

Preference will be given to applicants with experience and education in real property appraisal.

 

Job Description


Under the supervision of a senior designated appraiser, and following written guidelines:

  • Inspect subject properties

  • Research factual data respecting individual properties, neighbourhoods and markets

  • Research sale and rental transactions

  • Complete appraisal and consulting analyses

  • Prepare reports

  • Other related duties will be required.


Qualification/Skills Required:
  • Are a candidate member with the Appraisal Institute of Canada.

  • Excellent computer skills – the job requires daily operation of advanced databases, Microsoft Office, digital imaging software, and internet research facilities 

  • Strong research skills, including competence in statistical analysis

  • The ability to develop and maintain a high level of understanding in the body of professional appraisal knowledge

  • Competence in written communications; fluency in English at the university level is required

  • A background in real estate or business is an asset

  • A valid driver’s license is required, as is the availability of a vehicle for inspection and travel purposes

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interrelate successfully with co-workers, clients and marketplace participants

  • A penchant for research and an eye for detail

  • A commitment to quality work, adherence to deadlines and customer service.

 

Conditions of Work

The position is primarily an office position and hours of work are typically 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday.; although there will be some opportunity to work from home. The incumbent of this position works under supervision of senior appraisers, and performance is judged based on results. He or she must be capable of workload planning and prioritizing and must be results oriented.

The position may require travel, usually within 100 kilometres of the office and occasionally overnight, mostly within British Columbia.
